Andrew Catton Statement

Becoming Head Coach of Ipswich FC in 2024 was an unexpected but welcome challenge, and I was fortunate to inherit a squad with solid foundations laid by the previous Head Coach and his staff.
After a difficult 2024 that was all about survival, there was a genuine sense of optimism heading into 2025 due to the squad we had assembled and some very positive pre-season results. We began with the intention of developing a clear playing style and identity. While this did not evolve in the exact way we had envisioned, the team grew into a style underpinned by resilience out of possession and a consistently high work ethic. Performances undoubtedly improved, though unfortunately results did not reflect those efforts. Injuries and an inability to consistently convert our chances proved to be real challenges across the season. We are happy to finish the season as one of the top defensive teams in the league, having only conceded 3 goals from open play in the second half of the season.
I am grateful to every player who contributed to the senior program over the last two seasons. Many are boys I have coached and known for some time, while others I’ve come to know through this role. I’ve valued both renewing old relationships and developing new ones. These relationships are a major reason why stepping away from this position has not been an easy decision. However, the role demands more than I am currently able to commit, and for the good of the program, it is the right choice to resign.
I want to sincerely thank the staff who have supported me in this role: Andy Sinclair, Darren Marsh, Jason Ball, Mark Cuthbertson, Dax Anderson, Jamie Adair, and Dr. Lleyton Jones. Your hard work and dedication have been invaluable. To the volunteers who give so much of their time to the club, and to the supporters who came to cheer on the boys, thank you!
Ipswich FC has enormous potential to be something great in the years to come. I feel privileged to have been part of the club’s formative stages and truly look forward to watching it grow and succeed long into the future.
Finally, I want to thank my wife, Maree, and my son, George, for their support during my time in this role. I now look forward to spending more time with them.
Thank you and all the best!
